Mike Gendron, is an ex Roman Catholic. I can certainly relate to his urgency to share the Truth of God’s Word regarding the erroneous doctrines of Catholicism.
In contemplating the possibility of joining the Roman Catholic Church twenty-nine years ago, I seemed to develop an insatiable desire for truth. Since that time I have been what some may call obsessed with the quest for truth, devouring the King James Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Abingdon's Strong's Hebrew and Greek Concordance
As I got deeper into the study of the Scriptures, it became more and more clear to me that, contrary to the many good and wonderful things associated with the Roman Catholic Church, there are many definite and even crucial discrepancies between the doctrines and dogmas of Roman Catholicism and the concise harmonious teaching of the inspired Word of God. Finding self-contradictions within the Catechism of the Catholic Church added even more intensity to the war that was raging inside of me, which was either to share or not to share my findings with my Roman Catholic family.
The three meager attempts I made during the past twenty-nine years to share some of my findings were unfruitful. The fear of alienating myself from my family was more than I could bear, which has kept me from any further attempts. It was a huge nagging and constant hurt. I knew deep inside that this thing was much bigger than just my family and me. The more I studied, the more I cried. The more I cried, the harder I prayed. It was not until this past year, through intense prayer and deliberation that I came to the conclusion that I really didn't have a choice. Family or no family, I must follow my heart and trust God totally.
I agree wholeheartedly with what St. Jerome wrote: "If an offense comes out of the truth, it is better that the offense come than the truth be concealed." I began rummaging through and sorting out old manuscripts I had written over the years with a sense of urgency to share the truth of God's Word concerning the erroneous doctrines of Catholicism, not with just my family but with the world.
All of my efforts in compiling these manuscripts were born out of love and compassion for all Roman Catholic brothers and sisters-brothers and sisters who love the Lord and who believe the gospel's basic message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ but who are deceived and held in bondage under false doctrines derived from the traditions of man and who are thereby deprived of the freedom and joy of fully experiencing the magnitude of God's love. I earnestly pray that the Holy Spirit will quicken the readers' hearts and minds with the truth of God's Word and render void any personal opinion of mine, or anyone else's, that is not truth.
You make it sound as if the Catechism of the Catholic Church is our Bible (in your about me section) and that we don't use Sacred Scripture...when, that is erroneous and untrue. We use both Sacred Scriptrue and Sacred Tradition. The Tradition, with a capital T, is the Tradition founded by Christ himself, not men.
ReplyDeleteI admit, I did not read much on your site, I only happened to come across it via a friend request you sent me on facebook and I only did a quick read through above.
I was as fallen away from the Church as I could possibly be, outside of having no belief in God (and I am thankful I never rode that boat), and sound reason is actually the primary force that brought me back and filled me with a passion so intense that I would suffer anything for God and for His church.
I have to say, I am always curious as to what others in your position find false, or contradictory. What do you think your biggest bone to pick with the Church would be? And why are you so adamant against it?
I hope that is not offensive, but by receiving your friend request on facebook and posting a link to your blog, it seems as though you might be willing to have an honest conversation about faith, which is always enjoyable.
I also have a blog, if you click my name it will take you to it. I haven't been blogging long, and the Catholic Mom Perspective is where I kind of journal my experiences pertaining to religion, and my thoughts on various topics. I am not an apologist, or certainly not an expert, but I believe in the teachings and in the Church and I have never been misguided. I look forward to your response.
Hello Marla,
ReplyDeleteI love the title of your blog, and I certainly agree with it.
In some ways, my story is similar to yours. I want to thank you for your blog and I pray that God blesses you in your ministry in reaching out to Catholics. It is worth all the work.
Hi Jessica,
You mentioned Sacred Tradition, but I don’t think that anyone can really tell us exactly what that is. I would be interested in some friendly discussion about our faith if you are, and I would be willing to share some food for thought.
In His Name,
Russell
Just found this blog again after 6 years of switching computers
